Product Review: NYX Lip Colors
Target is a dangerous store. You know what I’m talking about, don’t pretend like you don’t. Admit it ladies, I’m sure you’ve all walked in with a “list” of like 2 items (HA!) and walked out with a cart full of stuff.
But hey, it was on sale! ;-)
Last week I went to Target on a lunch break just to get some healthy snacks but knowing me, I had to stop in to the beauty section. I casually walked by the brightly lit rows of lipsticks, eyeshadows and sparkly nail polish, and before I knew it, I was circling back to the collection of NYX makeup products. Funny enough, I never really used this brand until the last year or so, but I have totally fallen in love with their products.
So, that day felt like a “hey, let’s buy some lipstick” kind of day. Honestly, I don’t even know what I grabbed, but I in about 2 seconds, I had a bunch of lip colors in my hands – a vampy, dark cherry in both glossy and matte, glossy “unicorn” purple and your standard, ‘ole vivid electric pink (but who am I kidding, even I get a little bored with a hot pink lip).
Here is what I bought:
NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Funnel Delight (bright pink)
NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Black Cherry Tart
NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in LSCL10 (purple)
NYX Soft Matte Lip Crème in Transylvania SMLC21 (matte dark cherry – however, when I saw it in the tube originally, it looked like a dark grey, which I kind of weirdly loved even more)
Did I go home and test every single color and take those selfies? Um, yes. Doesn’t everyone do the same thing? J Or at least try on all your new clothes when you come home from shopping? Raise your hand if “yes”! (Picture me, sitting at my computer, with my hand raised…ok back to typing).
Here’s the scoop. The matte colors, are, well matte and can be a bit drying. Okay, so you really need a good hydrating lip balm underneath and yes, you WILL have to re-apply balm throughout the day, because if you’re like me, your lips get really dry. The shiny colors aren’t as drying of course and but they glide on like butter.
But the real question is – do they last? The answer is a definite YES to the max! To the point that I was wearing the lip color for many hours (through eating and drinking), washed my face, brushed my teeth and in the morning, my lips STILL had a tint of hot pink. How crazy is that? Do you think it’s a little concerning that they stayed on so well? Is that unnatural? Eh, I’m not too worried about it, because isn’t that usually what we all want in a lip color? Staying power? Well, you got it with these. Plus, they don’t break the bank at for under $7 a pop!
I still haven’t been brave enough to wear the purple lip color to work yet. But as my friend Abby wrote, my style is “unapologetic” – so maybe she has a point. Thanks Abby!
An of course, out of all 4, the purple one is my favorite, maybe because it’s just like my style – classic with a twist. :)
Risky Veggie’s Product Rating (of ALL 4 lipsticks): A+
